Installation Instructions

STRAW BLANKET
Straw blankets were developed for moderate to steep slopes and low-flow channels where erosion protection is required for only a short period during vegetation development. The blankets are reinforced by a light weight photodegradable net with a uniform wheat straw filler for soil erosion control and seed bed mulching. Straw blankets offer an economic advantage over excelsior blankets.

Standard Straw Blanket: This straw blanket has only one side of netting stitched on 1.5" centers with a average shear stress of 1.60 lb./ft. See Table - Return to Top

High Velocity Straw Blanket: This straw blanket has two sides of netting stitched on 1.5" centers with a average shear stress of 2.25 lb./ft. See Table - Return to Top

EXCELSIOR BLANKET
Excelsior blankets were developed for moderate to steep slopes and high-flow channels where erosion protection is required for vegetative development and a moderate time after. The blankets are reinforced by a light weight photodegradable net with a uniform wood excelsior of 80% eight-inch or longer fiber lengths for soil erosion control and seed bed mulching. Standard color is a natural brown with an option for green on most products.

Standard Excelsior Blanket: This excelsior blanket has one side of netting stitched on 3" centers with a average shear stress of 1.80 lb./ft. See Table - Return to Top

Green Standard Excelsior Blanket: This excelsior blanket has one side of netting and Aspen wood. It differs from our other excelsior blanket in that its green in color, two options for size, and manufactured by a different firm. See Table - Return to Top

High Impact Excelsior Blanket: This excelsior blanket has two sides of netting stitched on 3" centers with a average shear stress of 2.25 lb./ft. See Table - Return to Top

Heavy High Impact Excelsior Blanket: This excelsior blanket has two sides of netting stitched on 3" centers with a average shear stress of 2.25 lb./ft. See Table - Return to Top

Silt/Metal Products

Staples: Used for the installation of blanket/mat and sod. Standard size is 6" long by 1" wide made with 11ga wire. Sizes can be made different lengths such as 4" or 8" long. Largest staple available is 12" long. Standard size 1,000 per box and weights 44 lb. Return to Top

T-Posts: Used for installation of silt fence and safety fences. Most common size is 4 feet long with no paint or spade and weight 1.25 lbs. per foot. Larger sizes are used with safety fences. Return to Top

Silt Fence: This product is a black woven fiber used to contain soil movement off construction sites. Under commercial applications this material will be installed in a 12" deep trench then covered leaving 24" above the soil and held up with metal t-posts. Government and high flow areas will have an additional backing of 12ga wire. Sizes and types of silt material vary with the standard stock item being a 500-foot roll on a 3-inch core center. Fence Supplies: Our inventory covers many styles and gauges of wire fencing and orange safety fences. Please contact us for your special needs. Return to Top

BONDED FIBER MATRIX

Bonded Fiber Matrixs were developed using mulch mixed with tackifiers to produce a blow on blanket. Only one product, Soil Guard, has been tested and accepted by the state of Texas to replace blankets. Soil Guard is approved for all class 1 uses. Because Soil Guard can be applied with hydroseeding equipment most of the labor cost and time to install a blanket is eliminated. For further information see click here or visit http://www.soilguard.com

Unlike traditional erosion blanket/mat this prodoct:

  • Adhers to the soil and leaves no voids.
  • Provides a natural environment that allows seed to germinate quickly.
  • Labor saving with one step erosion control, no need to lay down blanket.
  • Steep slopes are not as labor intensive or potentially dangerous to install.
