Common bermudagrass is a good all around warm season grass for turf, pasture and erosion control. Once established, it is drought tolerant, heat tolerant, salt tolerant and will stand a lot of abuse. Before seeding is attempted, soil temperatures need to be stabilized at a minimum of 65 degrees F.

Has had hull removed, speeds germination. Good pasture, Erosion Control, Lawns, Turfgrass. Low growing, disease and insect resistant. Needs warm soil to germinate and direct sunlight. Hulled (hull removed for faster germination) and Unhulled (hull remains on for weather protection).

Giant bermudagrass is a subspecies of Common bermudagrass that exhibits excellent forage growth characteristics. It may be planted alone or with common bermudagrass for forage and pasture use. Giant bermudagrass makes excellent hay for horses and cows. The protein content depends on the management of the stand. It does well on many types of ground, but does very well on light soils.

Once established, giant bermudagrass is very drought, heat and salt tolerant. Cultural management of giant bermudagrass is much like that of Coastal Bermudagrass, a vegetative pasture bermudagrass.

More upright growth than common, 1-2'. Incorrectly called seed type coastal bermudagrass. Treat like coastal.

Mohawk Bermudagrass

2"-1½' Good to 20° 25" 2-3 lb per 1000 sqft

Certified Mohawk Bermudagrass was developed from the cold tolerant vegetative bermudagrass called Vamont. It is an advanced turf-type bermudagrass with cold tolerance. This means that once it is established, Mohawk has greater ability to survive winter cold temperatures and stress. Mohawk tends to green up a little earlier than other bermudagrasses. Similar to Sydney, Mohawk has medium fine leaf texture and dark green color comparable to Tifgreen.

Ranchero Frio bermudagrass is a blend of Giant and Cheyenne. This mixture was put together in 1998 to help improve the forage production of straight Giant bermudagrass. Cheyenne offers more cold tolerance and more aggressive growth than Giant. Giant only is not an aggressive Bermuda and can be overtaken by Common which is undesirable for forage. This blend is especially useful for areas which are continuously grazed.

Variety FMC-6 - Sultan is an improved turf-type variety of bermudagrass. It was released in 1994. Sultan is sold only as Certified seed. Under the same fertilization schedule as SAHARA, Sultan maintains its dark green color longer. Sultan is much denser than SAHARA with a medium leaf texture. It has moderate cold tolerance compared to Common and SAHARA. Sultan has been planted in Texas for soccer fields, golf course fairways, school parks, ball fields and premium home lawns. Sultanis dark color and improved leaf texture allow it to be used for repairing damaged areas in some vegetative bermudagrasses. New for 1997, lawn type, much darker green than other types of bermuda.

Sydney has green color comparable to Tifgreen, medium fine leaf texture and greater turf density than Sultan. Sydney may be used on all premium turf applications such as golf course tees, fairways and roughs, sports fields and home lawns.
