Mulch/Tackifiers
Mulch is a paper, wood, or mixture of paper and wood that is placed
in specialty equipment with water, seed, and fertilizer to create a slurry product that
is then sprayed on soil. This process known as Hydroseeding is an alternative to drilling
seed in many areas and lends its self to hard to reach places such as slopes and confined
spaces. Over the last 30 plus years this process has become well accepted while many
techniques and methods are still in there infancy.
This is only a list of the most common products and does not include all of the manufactures
complete products. Manufactures include Central Fiber, Conweb, and Justin Seed.
(Enviroblend® Hydro Mulch® Fiber; Hydro Mulch® 2000 are registered products of Conweb)
(Second Nature®; are registered products of Central Fiber)Return to Top
Paper Mulch
An effective and environmental conscious alternative to wood mulch is recycled paper mulch.
Second Nature®: Manufactured from secondary ground-wood
fibers, Second Nature® Paper Fiber Hydroseeding Mulch has become a widely accepted
product worldwide. Its superior wetability and consistent performance make paper
fiber mulch an obvious choice for the ecology-minded hydroseeder. Second Nature®
is a cost effective product that offers one of the best shipping and handling options
with it?s 17" x 9" x26", 50 lb. bags on one-ton pallets. This is the premiere paper
mulch on the market today. See Table -

Dr. Grow Paper Fiber Hydroseeding Mulch: Offers a more
economic option than any of the other mulch products. Was developed to assist in
projects that specified large amounts of mulch per acre. Will tank mix in equipment
faster. See Table - Return to Top
Wood Mulch
Considered to many as the standard to measure all other mulch products.
Mat Blend: Blend of 50% paper and 50% wood that is cost effective and easy to mix. Mat Blend eliminates many of the mixing and handeling problems associated with wood mulch.

Mat Fiber (Regular): Weyerhaeuser developed this product over 30 years ago. Fiber length is slightly shorter and more consestant is size. Due to the package in 50lb bags and consistant size Mat Fiber is preferred by many applicators.
See Table -Return to Top
Mat Fiber Plus: Inavluable tool on criticalseeding projects because of its ability to prevent soil erosion and enhance seed germination. The combination of wood fiber mulch and premixed organic tackifier provides a low cost erosion control.

Corn Mulch
Corn Fiber mulch is new technology to the hydraulic seeding industry that is superior to paper mulch and equal to blended paper and wood mulches. Using corn fibers only, creates a mat on the soil with structural integrity and holding power. These corn fibers also exceed water-holding capacities of both paper and blended mulches. Better performance means better germination. Increased holding power means fewer washouts and reduced callbacks.
Ameri-Fibers: Inavluable tool on critical seeding projects because of its ability to prevent soil erosion and enhance seed germination. The combination of wood fiber mulch and premixed organic tackifier provides a low cost erosion control.

Tackifiers
Earth Bond: An advanced tackifier agent with exceptional water holding capacity. Has many of the same uses as Tac Pack but does not dry down as fast and not recommended for aggressive soil stabilization applications. Does provide more water hold capacity for seed germination and is recommended for use during dry periods or if irrigation is required.
See Table - Return to Top
Tac Pack: An organic derivative vegetative gum material containing no harmful substances and is environmentally safe. Assists in temporary erosion control during seed germination and plant development. Tacks soil, hay, and mulch to soil allowing quicker seed germination. Moisture Retention quality helps hold moisture closer to seed longer. Drift control by making your slurry tacky and holding product in place. Lubricates slurry mix, reducing plugging and improve pump performance.

Bonded Fiber Matrix
Bonded Fiber Matirxs were developed using mulch mixed with tackifiers to produce a
blow on blanket.
insert:
Unlike traditional erosion blanket/mat this prodoct:
- Adhers to the soil and leaves no voids.
- Provides a natural environment that allows seed to germinate quickly.
- Labor saving with one step erosion control, no need to lay down blanket.
- Steep slopes are not as labor intensive or potentially dangerous to install.
Soil Guard has been tested and accepted by the state of Texas to replace blankets.
Soil Guard is approved for all class 1 uses. Because Soil Guard can be applied with
hydroseeding equipment most of the labor cost and time to install a blanket is eliminated.

Spray Matt: A bonded matrix erosion fiber product made
from non-toxic, biodegradable, recycled paper materials. The adhesive contained in
Spray Matt allows the composition to readily absorb water and provide viscosity control.
Unlike traditional erosion blanket/mat this prodoct:
- Adhers to the soil and leaves no voids.
- Provides a natural environment that allows seed to germinate quickly.
- Labor saving with one step erosion control, no need to lay down blanket.
